This Valentine's Day, send a Love Letter to your favorite Academy animal, biologist, diver, or scientist to let them know how they set your heart aflutter. We’ll make sure your letter reaches its intended recipient (we’ll even read out loud to Claude if necessary, promise), and you can read other Love Letters by clicking any image below. Dear (Mascot) Claude and (Real) Claude,
Every year one of our favorite things to do is to take a photo with both the real Claude and the mascot Claude at the annual Holiday Nights event. We have missed you both during the pandemic and hope you both are faring well. Hope to see you soon. And hope you are enjoying the swamp.
Love, M+E
Dear Arapaima
I love walking into the tunnel of the flooded amazon forest and watching the room go dark as you slowly swim across the top! Your scales are so amazing and I cannot believe how much you resemble a creature that has been on this earth for thousands of years! I hope you know that you are my favourite fish and I enjoy seeing you at every academy visit!
Love, Candice
Dear Claude,
Both my grandsons wanted to visit you first before exploring the rest of the museum! While we were there, you actually moved and the boys loved seeing that. One went home with a Claude stuffed animal . Thanks for starting off our wonderful museum visit with such joy!
Much love, The Ferrando/Ewing families
Marie Angel
Thank you to all the wonderful staff, scientists, animals and everyone who kept the Academy going under challenging circumstances this past year. A special thanks to Marie who loves her job and coworkers. We are so proud of you and all the exceptional people who make the Academy such a unique and beautiful place to work and visit.
Love, The Angel Family
I miss you!!!

Dear Penguins,
It has been a pleasure to be able to tune in on your webcam to watch you in action every day. I especially enjoy catching you at feeding time. I share these photos with my granddaughter. When she was younger, we went often to see you. Happy to know visitors are welcome again. We have been long time members of the Academy.
Academy in General
I have missed the academy the past year but have been so thankful for the Thursday night schools. I have so enjoyed the presentations and thank you so much for making them available to members. I hope you will continue with these so interesting and educational presentations.
From a loyal member.
To Whom it May Concern:
My nephew and his wife came from Florida to visit me here in San Francisco a few years back. The planetarium was undoubtedly one of the most magical and memorable events of their entire trip. Talk about loving something! Thank you…

The animals.
For the last five years I have lived in the mountains of Ecuador. In the rainforest there are hundreds of species of animals that I have never seen before. I have moved back to the states and have been waiting to return to CAOS. I hope to see you soon my friends. Regards, Gary Kennedy
Dear Jellies
My Grandma and Grandpa brought me to meet you. I am just barely 3 years old. how old are you? i love the way you change colors. i can't know how you do that but it's so beautiful. See you soon!

To all the beautiful butterfies
My son, Keenan and I traveled from Tampa Florida to San Francisco on the 2nd week of May of this year and had the pleasure to come and visit your Academy of Sciences. It was such a breathtaking experience to walk through as your magical little wings fluttered around us so freely and softly. Your presence made us feel as though we were far away from such a big city almost in another dimension. The peace you bring is a gift.
Love, Keenan & KaLeena

Dear Claude
It was nice seeing you for the first time! You looked cool and seemed hella rad. Hope you have good time with people again. PS. I don't know if this gator is you but I hope it is.
Best regards, Janiel E-O.
To the penguins and the rays
During the 3 days I was in bed with vertigo , I was able to feel good when I could focus on watching the penguins and the rays swimming and playing through the cameras that were there.

The popsicle shark
Dear Popsicle Shark, I haven’t seen you in many years; you didn’t make the move after the ‘89 quake and rebuild. But you were my favorite exhibit when I was a kid at the old Steinhart Aquarium. I stared at you, transfixed, for as long as my mom would let me. I particularly remember the long icicles that would hang from your nose or tail. I miss you. You are a favorite memory. I hope you still reside in the museum collection. Please know someone still remembers you and thinks of you fondly.
Love, Kirstin
