Visit an aquarium, planetarium, rainforest, and natural history museum—all under one living roof.
Did you know that the California Academy of Sciences is home to the largest collection of skulls, skeletons, and other preserved samples of the southern sea otter (Enhydra lutris nereis) in the world? Celebrate Sea Otter Awareness Week, which runs September 19–27, 2015, with special programs, activities, and specimens at the Academy. Throughout the week, stop by the Project Lab to see unique specimens on display and look for sea otter-themed activities in the Early Explorers Cove, Naturalist Center, and Children’s Gallery. On September 24, join us for the NightLife event (for ages 21 and over) from 6 pm to 9 pm where you can view sea otter skulls being prepared in the Project Lab and talk to biologists at a special sea otter table. Finally, dive deeper into the world of sea otters on Friday, September 25 by meeting biologists and other staff for fun sea otter activities for all ages from 10 am to 2 pm on the Public Floor.
