San Francisco (September 4, 2018)—The California Academy of Sciences in Golden Gate Park is excited to announce Community Free Days from Sunday, September 23 – Tuesday, September 25. As the greenest museum on the planet, the Academy’s groundbreaking sustainable building re-opened in Golden Gate Park in September 2008 and the museum will kick off its tenth anniversary celebration by opening its doors wide for the entire community. Community Free Days are made possible thanks to generous support from Pacific Gas and Electric Company.

Free days at the Academy have historically been among the museum’s busiest days, so in order to reduce extended wait times and allow visitors to better plan their day, the Academy is introducing free ticket reservations online in advance starting at 10 am on Friday, September 7. Free tickets will be available to reserve through Friday, September 14 or until they are sold out and are required for guaranteed entry on Community Free Days. For detailed information on how to easily reserve free tickets in advance, please visit the Academy’s website.

As an institution deeply committed to community access, the Academy’s new Community Free Days were developed with the museum’s Golden Gate Park neighbors in mind. By offering three consecutive free days, the Academy hopes to help alleviate traffic congestion and limited parking within and around Golden Gate Park and strongly encourages visitors to travel sustainably via public transportation, bicycling, and on foot when possible. Transportation tips to help you plan your visit can be found on the Academy’s website.

As part of the Academy for All initiative, the museum currently welcomes more than 330,000 visitors annually through free and reduced admission programs that range from free and subsidized field trips and $3 general admission for EBT/WIC cardholders and their families to Community Value memberships and Neighborhood Free Weekends twice a year.
