Marvels of the Earth, gems and minerals are as essential to our daily lives as they are brilliant and beautiful. In the California Academy of Sciences’ newest gallery, explore dazzling and dramatic specimens from the Academy’s remarkable geology collection—from iconic gems that play a vibrant part in the institution's history to newly displayed geologic wonders. View a giant crystal quartz specimen up close, discover how fluorescent minerals glow under UV light and learn how these natural wonders have influenced ancient and modern cultures around the world.

Behind-the-Scenes at the Academy: Private Animal Encounter Tour
The Private Animal Encounter isn’t just a tour—it’s a chance to get up-close and personal with an amazing Academy animal. These special animals are not on display and make only rare appearances to the public. It's the perfect opportunity to meet one of our non-human Academy ambassadors! Offered Tuesdays–Sundays; reservations required. $175 for up to four guests. $40 each additional guest (Academy members receive special pricing).

Junior Academy
August 29 through November 17
Junior Academy programs for toddlers and preschoolers connect young learners with science and nature through engaging, hands-on activities. Friendly Academy educators and small group settings make these programs a slam-dunk for science enthusiasts. Look for fresh and fun sessions this Fall about nature, music and art.
The California Academy of Sciences is home to an aquarium, planetarium, natural history museum, and research and education programs, which engage people of all ages and backgrounds on two of the most important topics of our time: life and its sustainability. Admission to the Academy is: $34.95 for adults; $29.95 for youth ages 12 to 17, Seniors ages 65+, and students with valid ID; $24.95 for children ages 4 to 11; and free for children ages 3 and younger. Admission fees include all exhibits and shows. Hours are 9:30 am - 5:00 pm Monday - Saturday, and 11:00 am - 5:00 pm on Sunday.
