NightSchool: Food For Change
We’re digging into our local food scene, highlighting just some of the people and organizations, working to better their communities through equity, sustainability, and science.
- Gardeners from the Bayview’s Florence Fang Community Farm talk about their new urban farm projects, inspired by the desire to change a long history of environmental and food injustice in POC communities.
- Learn about La Cocina’s mission to create a more equitable community through food, what they’re doing to support their program’s entrepreneurs during Covid-19, and hear from Chef Tiffany Carter, owner of Boug Cali.
- Dr. Brian Fisher, the Academy’s Curator of Entomology, rates the top 10 insects he’s eaten, all in the name of Breakfast Before Conservation, a Madagascar-based project that harnesses circular green farming to help sustainably feed communities, restore landscapes, and protect native lemurs.
- Anthony Myint, co-founder of Mission Chinese Food and Zero Foodprint, gives a talk on how to eat our way out of our current food crisis. Zero Foodprint helps farmers implement carbon farming (also called regenerative farming) to restore soil biology, which naturally pulls tons of carbon (literally) out of the atmosphere.
- Chef Mike Weller of 18 Reasons, the Mission’s nonprofit cooking school, shows you a couple ways to use up extra veggies with some fermentation-friendly recipes. (Recipes here if you want to cook along!)
