S'mores & Snores: An Adult Sleepover
All the fun of camping—none of the bug spray! Pack your sleeping bag and sense of adventure for an adults-only indoor “camping” experience at the Academy. Revisit all of your favorite childhood camp activities (s'mores and spooky stories, anyone?), go stargazing in our planetarium, and drift off to dreamland alongside your favorite Academy animals.
Your ticket includes:
- Farm-to-table dinner buffet in the Café
- Planetarium showings and a late-night screening of The Cabin in the Woods
- A spooky magic show filled with campfire stories and mystifying tricks
- Campy crafts and games—friendship bracelets, cornhole, Connect 4, and more
- Live science presentation
- Al fresco breakfast boxes on the Living Roof
- Cash bar
- Free garage parking
- And, of course, s'mores!
Don't forget to electronically sign your waiver of liability in advance! Guests who fail to submit a signed waiver will not be admitted into the event.
At this time, proof of full vaccination (i.e., completing your primary vaccine series) will be required, with boosters strongly encouraged (if eligible). All guests will also be required to wear a well-fitted mask indoors except when eating, drinking, and sleeping. Please note that our health and safety policies are subject to change—please visit this page closer to the event for the latest information.
We recommend bringing camping pads, yoga mats, or small cots. There will be limited space and access to power outlets. You are welcome to bring an air mattress as long as it is a reasonable size (for 1 person).
We do not allow outside food into the Academy during sleepovers, except in connection to a dietary restriction (please contact us in advance to arrange this). Dinner and drinks are available for purchase at the Academy Café from 6-8:30 pm, and a complimentary bedtime snack is available until 9 pm. Breakfast the next day is included.
All participants must be at least 21 years of age and have a valid form of photo ID.
Yes, there will be cash bars at the event serving beer and wine.
Unfortunately, we are unable to offer refunds or rainchecks on sleepover tickets. You are welcome to send someone in your place as long as they sign a waiver of liability and are 21 or older with valid ID.
Do bring: Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination (booster dose strongly encouraged), well-fitted face mask, pillow, sleeping bag, toiletries (showers not available), hard-soled shoes/slippers, appropriate pajamas/sleepwear. Optional: Sleeping pads, earplugs, sleep mask, yoga mat.
Do not bring: Flashlights, tents, outside food/drink (unless related to dietary restrictions), coolers, balloons, radios, weapons.
After the sleepover event ends at 8 am, the museum must be vacated to prepare for public opening. Next-day admission to the museum is included with your sleepover ticket, so you are welcome to re-enter when the building opens to the public at 9:30 am.
Garage parking is included with your ticket, and validation will be distributed when you leave the museum in the morning after breakfast. Please note that there is no overnight street parking in Golden Gate Park and that the garage is not operated by the Academy.
Check-in begins at 6 pm, and you are welcome to check in anytime before 8 pm. There are no in/out privileges during the sleepover. If you leave the sleepover for any reason before its conclusion, you may re-enter when the Academy reopens the next day.
Sleeping area designation cards are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis upon arrival. You may only obtain sleep cards for guests who are present. Sleep cards cannot be picked up ahead of time for latecomers or guests not physically present in the building.
