In this and the next two blog entries, I return to posting objects that I acquired in Antarctica for my project. These particular items fall in the “old rusty objects” category that makes frequent appearances on this blog but that I never tire of.
That’s because the items’ unique forms, markings, colors, and textures have compelling stories to tell — or at least suggest — about their origin, function, and age. Moreover, they inspire us to imagine a particular history: that of working on the Ice followed by an even longer encasement in it.
