Pepperwood Preserve Teacher Workshop June 9-10

When: Saturday, June 9 (9am arrival) through Sunday, June 10 (3pm dismissal). Please plan to spend the night!

Where: Pepperwood Preserve in eastern Sonoma County (25 minutes from Santa Rosa, 90 minutes from San Francisco)

Who: Ideal for adventurous 3th-8th grade classroom teachers, but other teachers/educators welcome. Keep reading to see if this is a good fit!

Meals and Lodging: Dinner on Saturday and breakfast and lunch on Sunday are included (please bring a bagged lunch for Saturday). Overnight accommodations will be in the Bechtel House (bunk bed) or in a tent (most will be in tents). Because you will be doing activities well into the evening, and be up at the crack of dawn for birding… please plan to spend the night.

Educators who complete the workshop will receive a copy of the Habitat Connections curriculum kit and high-quality organic fertilizer to use in your school garden thanks to this workshop's sponsor, Alaska Fertilizer. You’ll practice some of the activities in this curriculum, such as the popular Migration Obstacle Course and Bird Survivor, and discover how to implement citizen science projects such as eBird and Habitat Network with students.

Pepperwood Preserve is a beautiful and vital sanctuary for hundreds of plant and animal species! The weekend will be spent both in a classroom setting at the Dwight Center for Conservation Science and in the field observing wildlife and practicing activities. Plan to bring your laptop and a mobile device so that you can practice using Cornell Lab citizen-science apps and websites.
