Teens in Lobby

In addition to our long-term programs, the Academy offers special events, like the annual #TeenScienceNight hosted by our own youth community.

Teen Selfie Station

End your summer with science: Immerse yourself in the natural world at the Academy's annual #TeenScienceNight, a teen takeover night of the museum. Bay Area youth (ages 13-18) are invited to come relax and explore the world of science at this free, fun-filled event. Watch science come to life at #TeenScienceNight - planned for youth, by youth.

#TeenScienceNight is brought to you in partnership with the Bay Area Teen Science (B.A.T.S) and Teen Force collaboratives.

Science Game Jam
Youth working together

Youth at the Science Game Jam work with Academy scientists and Bay Area game developers to explore science and game design with other teens. Youth collaborate with gaming professionals to make a prototype of their game, and compete in teams to win a prize!

Digital Learning Playshops
Youth engaging at playshop

Our Digital Learning program collaborates with local organizations to host a monthly series of youth science and technology “playshops” at the Academy. Each playshop focuses on a different science / technology experience—such as 3D sustainable design, aquatic robotics, and science game design—facilitated by adult or youth experts. Playshops emphasize playful tech exploration, science learning, and youth creativity and voice.
