Time: 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM
Location: California Academy of Sciences

Special Note: This is a three day workshop taking place on Monday June 23, Tuesday June 24, and Wednesday June 25. In order to participate, you must be able to attend all three sessions.

How will science education be transformed by the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS)? In this introductory-level workshop, you will dive into the Framework for K-12 Education and discover how these new standards are structured. Gain experience with the Science and Engineering Practices, Crosscutting Concepts, and Disciplinary Core Ideas which make up the three dimensions of the NGSS. Team up with other educators to discuss and interpret each dimension, and to brainstorm ways to begin integrating them into your teaching practice. You will have opportunities to work closely with teachers of your own grade-level, as well as to connect with other grade-levels to consider the big picture of this shift in science education.

This is a introductory-level workshop for educators who are not yet familiar with the NGSS.

A $35 fee is required to register. Participants will receive a $150 stipend upon completion of the series.

This workshop is also offered in July.

Time: 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM
Location: California Academy of Sciences

Special Note: This is a three day workshop taking place on Monday July 7, Tuesday July 8, and Wednesday July 9. In order to participate, you must be able to attend all three sessions.

NEW! How do you begin to integrate the Scientific and Engineering Practices (SEPs) of the NGSS into your classroom? We'll shine a spotlight on the SEPs in this intermediate-level NGSS workshop. Explore how the SEPs grow in depth and sophistication as students progress from grades K-12. Experience hands-on activities to discover what the Practices look like at different grade-levels. Leave with the skills to begin adapting your curriculum to the NGSS by using the SEPs as the gateway to reimagining science content.

Each NGSS spotlight course includes presentations, hands-on activities, collaborative group discussions, and grade-level planning time. Join us to unlock the potential of the NGSS Scientific and Engineering Practices!

This is an intermediate-level workshop for educators who are already familiar with the basics of the NGSS.

A $35 fee is required to register. Participants will receive a $150 stipend upon completion of the series.

NEW! How do we know what we know about the solar system? Get your hands on the Academy’s brand new Astronomy Kit and find out! Explore the planet Mars and discover how our knowledge about this red planet has been built over time. Start by observing the movement of a tiny red dot across the constellations, then see how telescopes transformed our observations. Consider the benefits and challenges of using rovers to learn about distant worlds, and find out how careful planning and critical thinking play a role in space exploration.

After taking this workshop, you will be eligible to use the Astronomy Kit in your classroom.

Activity descriptions and materials will be posted soon!
