Laugh your face off as SF Sketchfest takes over the Academy for a knee-slapping night of creatures, cocktails, and comedy, part of the annual SF Sketchfest Comedy Festival.


Fake Ted Talks
(African Hall)
6:30-7:00pm & 9:00-9:30pm, In African Hall, get two chances to witness some seriously funny Fake TED Talks with special guests Adam Rogers, editor of Wired, plus - Kasper Hauser, Brandon Reynolds,  Scott Simpson, Janet Varney and more.

Stranger(er) Science Theater
6:30pm, 7:10pm & 9:00pm

Taking over the Forum for some live riffing are the twisted "Mystery Science Theater 3000" scientists Frank Beaulieu and Frank Conniff in The Mads Are Back, with a show at 6:30pm and again at 7:10pm.
Then, starting at 9:00pm, we get even stranger with Strangerer Things, an improvised send up of last summer's beloved 80's-esque sci-fi series.

Cal Academy Comedy Club
6:30pm & 8:15pm,
In the Piazza, check out the stars of truTV's "Those Who Can't" in The Grawlix and Friends hosted by Adam Cayton-Holland, Andrew Orvedahl and Ben Roy. Then, at 8:15pm, get a steady stream of stand-up  featuring Julie Ash, Kaseem Bentley, Casey Ley, Andrew Orolfo, Greg Santos, Jacob Sirof, Ta'Vi and Emily Van Dyke.

  • Hurry! Last entry for our Rainforest dome is at 7:45 pm. Please note: drinks are not allowed inside the Rainforest exhibit.
  • Thirsty? Each bar area features a unique seasonal cocktail—there are multiple bars throughout the museum.
  • Special programs and lectures may have limited seating and admission will also be made available to visitors on a first-come, first-served basis.



  • Planetarium passes are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Early event arrival is strongly recommended due to limited capacity and high demand for passes.



  • A variety of food options are available at NightLife from 6:00-9:30 pm, including The Academy Cafe, The Terrace, and The Academy Cafe Food Cart located in the front lobby.
  • Enjoy a different fresh seasonal "craft on draft" cocktail at each NightLife bar area designed by our resident mixologist Shane McKnight!

All bars accept cash and credit cards.
