California Academy of Sciences Celebrates Earth DaySAN FRANCISCO (April 15, 1999) - This Earth Day, come explore and celebrate some of earth's creatures who inhabit corners of the world that few of us rarely see. On April 24, the California Academy of Sciences will join forces with the Earth Island Institute and the Marine Mammal Center to illuminate the amazing and mysterious lives of sea creatures. Visitors can discover the underwater world of a 1200 pound Pacific Leatherback Sea Turtle or hear a first hand account of Keiko's (the star of "Free Willie") real life journey to freedom. Using slide and video presentations, the programs will educate museum visitors about the natural history and conservation of sea turtles, marine mammals and sharks, and the environmental dangers that threaten these animals and their ecosystems. Visitors can touch elephant seal skin, sea lion bones and more.
